Celebrating impact in construction

Open to all building types, situated in South Africa.  This award recognizes and celebrates the retrofit of a building that most effectively demonstrates high levels of user satisfaction while delivering outstanding measured building performance - the vital adaptation and repurposing of existing buildings, setting a precedent to inspire the industry’s carbon footprint in the process.  Please include evidence of significant energy/water savings, improved IAQ, and contribution to making the building greener. The project must be completed during the period of Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

Eligible entrants: project owners, building operators, architecture and design firms, main contractors, and project management companies.

Joint submissions from Consultants, Architects, Contractors, Engineers, developers, Project owners, etc. will be accepted.

Judges will assign scores based on how well the submission meets the criteria listed below.

• High Levels of User Satisfaction
• Evidence of Carbon Emissions Reduction
• Wow Factor
• Contribution to Making the Building Greener

This award is open to any initiative with the goal of creating a more environmental, social, and economic impact by promoting and engaging its employees and the community in sustainability. The company should demonstrate how this initiative incorporates reduced energy consumption, use of alternative energy sources, increased recycled component usage, waste reduction measures, reduced water consumption, local sourcing initiatives, and how this has made a positive impact on the industry and the local community.

This category is open to any ongoing sustainability-oriented initiative executed in South Africa within Feb 2023 to Feb 2024.

This award goes to a candidate who has demonstrated excellent leadership in the workplace and has led others to great development and success in the built environment.

Judges are looking for the person that best demonstrates a positive impact on their peers, and their organisation and will have shown the potential to become an exemplary future leader, evidenced by having the ability to positively impact the behaviour of others.

• Transformational leadership
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Presents a good image of the organisation (positive work attitude)
• Excellent performance in their work
• The individual that has shown a clear path of initiative and growth within the organisation over the last couple of years by spearheading an idea or project
• The individual should stand for transformational spirit within the construction industry value chain.
• The individual performance should have contributed directly or indirectly to the financial or social-economic performance of the organisation
• The candidate can be an entrepreneur, a corporate professional, youth or a woman with disability.

Recognising young built environment professionals who are shaping the future of construction    in Southern Africa today with tremendous dedication and energy. This award provides a platform to unearth and recognise that inspirational and exciting leader of tomorrow (under 40 years of age) (Individual).

Judges will be looking for:

• The candidate who is excelling in the construction industry
• The Candidate must have shown success and industry advancement in the last 5 years
• The candidate should be a high achiever and have contributed directly or indirectly to her/his organisation or to the construction industry
• The candidate should have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The candidate can be an entrepreneur, corporate professional or government official.

Recognizing a woman in the built environment with outstanding efforts and enduring contribution to the concrete, cement and construction industry. This award may only be won once by a member. (Individual)

Judges will be looking for:

• The candidate shows determination and skill to advance within her field and at the same time promoting and highlighting the contribution of women in the industry
• The candidate that has mentored and encourage women to build careers in the built environment and is a champion of women in the industry
• The candidate that has be imparting skills and knowledge to other women
